Hello,
this is Channel Ace.
Recently, I started various SNS that Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.
As I thought while interacting with you,
I would like everyone to know about my motorcycle custom experience!
And help you even just a little!
Even if you take a look at my SNS,
What is this? . “Rather than you think,
Take a look at this site, it will help you! It’s better to think that.
So, little by little,
I would like to introduce useful information.
This time, as the first step, it is useful when painting a motorcycle, etc.
Let me introduce you to masking tape.
Bike painting procedure
When you paint a motorcycle, the image changes completely,
That alone makes it one-of-a-kind, so you’ll love it even more!
Roughly speaking, it will be the procedure when I paint a motorcycle.
1. Decide which parts of the bike to paint
2. Decide what color
3-1. Buy spray (primer, for painting, top clear)
3-2. Purchase masking tape and line tape
3-3. Prepare other necessary items (newspapers and other items for masking many parts, paint strippers, waterproof paper #400, masks, etc.)
You could also see the state of the painting at ↓, so please refer to it.
Difference between masking tape and line tape
First, what does masking mean?
To mask, to cover up.
If you put a so-called masking tape on it, the paint won’t get on that part.
Looking at the interface after removing the masking tape,
I think that there is something that is slightly rattling.
The masking tape has an uneven adhesive surface so that it can be easily peeled off.
All sides do not adhere to the bike side, and there is an air layer.
Because of this air layer, paint particles enter,
It is the cause of rattling.
On the other hand, the line tape has almost no unevenness on the adhesive surface,
Since it has a uniform surface, the adhesion on the motorcycle side increases.
There are no gaps for paint particles to enter, so the boundary surface is clear.
Masking tape is cheap, but if you are going to paint
I would definitely like to choose a line tape.
What kind of line tape should I buy?
Motorcycle painting is mainly for gasoline tanks, etc.
Since the main line painting is on the curved part,
You need something that won’t wrinkle even when you bend the line tape.
In other words, the thickness and elongation of the line tape are important.
If it is too thick, it will wrinkle easily, and if it is too thin, it will tear.
Also, if it stretches too much, the width of the line will become narrower, and if it does not stretch too much, it will be hard to bend.
The line tape I recommend is this one!
“Nichiban clear line tape (for curves)”
In my case,
I bought the 5mm wide one.
If it is too thin, there is no presence of the line,
If it’s too thick, you won’t be able to get a sharp look, so this is the right amount.
By the way, the line painting of my XV1100 is like this ↓.
At stores such as home centers, line tape is
I can’t find it easily.
(Well, if there is one person a week who wants to buy it for masking,
I think it’s a level, so I don’t want to put the store side too. . . )
Line tape can be easily found at online shops.
Summary
What did you think?
If you’re going to paint a motorcycle, you want to finish it beautifully!
Therefore, masking tape, line tape,
I hope you can use it properly depending on the application.
Even if there is a line tape,
If you can’t use this
Because it becomes wrinkled and you can not draw a straight line,
I would like to introduce the technique separately.
I look forward to your comments,
I would be happy if I could connect with you through this blog and SNS!
I also accept requests, so please feel free to contact me.
