Hello,
this is Channel Ace.
Regular maintenance by myself, so last time I talked about engine oil change.
This time, the second regular maintenance,
While staring at the service manual about replacing the rear tire I tried it myself, so I put it together.
How about the rear structure
Most bikes are rear wheel drive.
The power transmitted from the engine is transmitted to the rear tires via the chain.
The rear tire of Virago (XV1100) is “shaft driven”.
This shaft drive makes changing the rear tire very easy!
In the case of chain drive, adjust the tension of the chain,
I need to adjust the alignment.
Chain drive doesn’t need that.
It is very maintainable and the shaft drive gives a direct feeling above all!
(In chain drive, there is a time lag until tension is applied to the chain.)
How to standby
This was my first time changing rear tires.
I put the center stand up and tried to remove the rear tire.
However, it got caught on the rear fender and had a hard time removing it!
(After deflating the tire, I was finally able to remove it.)
Standby can be jacked up from under the engine or it may be better to hang it from above.
In any case, it is recommended to fix it with a rope or the like to prevent it from tipping over.
What needs to remove the rear tire?
What you need for standby are:
● Jack (to lift the bike body)
● Rope (to prevent falling)
What you need for disassembly and assembly are:
●Pliers
● 10 mm wrench (for pinch bolts)
● 13 mm wrench (for tension bar mounting nuts)
● 23 mm wrench (for axle nut)
It’s like this.
How to remove?
Now, to the point.
First, remove the adjuster (red circle) on the right side of the rear by turning it by hand.
Now you can remove the brake rod and link.
Once removed, remove the link pin and spring.
Remove the cotter pin (green circule in the photo above) of the tension bar with pliers,
Remove the nut with a 13mm wrench.
Next, loosen the pinch bolt (green circule in the photo below) with a 10mm wrench.
This completes the implementation on the rear right side.
Move on to work on the rear left side.
Remove the axle nut pin using pliers.
Then remove the axle nut with a 23mm wrench.
Using a Phillips screwdriver, hit the center of the axle shaft with a plastic hammer,
Push from the left side and pull out to the right side.
Finally, remove the rear tire by shifting it to the right and you’re done.
Summary
Thank you for your reading this!
The most important aspect of this work is safety.
I put a lot of force and remove the bolt nut, so
There is a danger that the vehicle will overturn unintentionally.
The car body weighs about 240 kg, so please be careful when working.
I think it’s okay if you wait about 30 minutes for the time required to remove it.
The removed parts are small, so keep them in a safe place.
Next time, I’m thinking of making an article about tire replacement.
Since we are shooting the work scenery,
I will contact you when I upload it to Youtube.
I would like to connect with XV1100 owners and othre bikers,
If you are reading this blog,
Feel free to reply me your messages in the comment section!
Thank you!
