When you own a motorcycle, you need to change the engine oil regularly.
Of course, I think it would be nice to have it replaces at the store,
If you replace it yourself, the cost performance is good.
This time, I introduce the engine oil of XV1100 Virago (4PP).
When should the engine oil be changed?
After purchasing a new bike,
First change: When driving 1000km,
2nd change: When driving 6000km,
3rd change: When driving 12000km,
4th time onwards: Every 6000km driving
Probably, I think that I will not get it with a new bike,
Engine oil should be changed every 6000km.
It looks like good to remember.
How much need engine oil?
The volume of engine oil when you need to change, it depends on the work you do.
Regular replacement time: 3.0 liters
When replacing with the oil filter: 3.1 liters
At engine overhaul: 3.6 liters
Since 3 liters or more are required for engine oil change,
If you buy a 4 liter can, it is enough!
What is the recommended engine oil?
according to the service manual,
Yamaha 4-stroke oil effero G, X, Z are recommended.
But these oil are not existing now.
Now, the name has been changed to YAMALUBE.
You can find in the internet easily.
It is recommended to use an engine oil with a viscosity number appropriate for the outside temperature.
SAE10W-30 (outside temperature approx. -20°C to 50°C)
SAE20W-40 (outside temperature about -10°C to 55°C)
SAE10W-50 (outside temperature about -20°C to 60°C)
How to check engine oil level?
At first, the bike is located at flat place and stand using the center stand.
If it is a side stand, the car body will tilt,
so accurate engine oil level cannot be checked.
Next, after idling the engine for 2-3 minutes,
then stop the engine,
wait 2-3 minutes for the engine oil to settle,
check that the level mark on the inspection window is between the upper and lower limit lines (below fig. “a” ).
That is all.
Engine oil is not good at low from the viewpoint for heat generation and lubrication.
Even if it is too high, the oil always touches several parts,
aggressiveness of the part (especially plastics) and increase gear friction,
so it is not good from the viewpoint of material deterioration and fuel consumption.
It’s good to have the right amount of engine oil.

Replacement period: each 6000km
Volume: 3 to 3.6 liters (Depending on work)
Oil: 4-stroke engine oil “Yamalube”
Inspection: Stop on the center stand on a flat place, check the level mark after idling.
Replacing the engine oil is not a difficult work as long as you keep track of the main points.
